Hibs' Fletcher seeks England move

Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher is hoping for a summer switch to England.

The 22-year-old was denied a January move to Celtic when Hibs rejected an approach for the Clydesdale Bank Young Player of the Season.

"Even when Celtic came in for me earlier in the year, I told everyone my first aim was to see if I could play down south," explained Fletcher.

"I wouldn't turn down big moves to big clubs, but I'd rather go down and play in the best league in the world."

Fletcher, who has scored 11 league goals this term, is under contract at Easter Road until the summer of 2013.

Management at Hibernian are resigned to losing the Scotland international but blocked a possible switch to Celtic Park in January.

The player was reportedly disgruntled at being denied the opportunity to speak to Celtic but has enjoyed an impressive second half of the season.

"If it (a transfer) doesn't happen, I'll be a Hibs player for another year, but we'll wait and see," added Fletcher, who scored for Scotland in April's 2-1 win over Iceland.

"You watch it (the English Premier League) on TV every week and it's the best league in the world.

"If someone gave me the opportunity, I would definitely take it."
