Hibernian have signed former Gretna attacking midfielder Fabian Yantorno and agreed a loan deal for Abdessalam Benjelloun to join Royal Charleroi.

Morocco striker Benjelloun, 23, has left the Scottish Premier League club on a season-long loan, with the Belgians having an option to buy.

The 25-year-old Uruguayan Yantorno has been given a two-year contract by Hibs after impressing during pre-season.

He had been training at Easter Road after being made redundant by Gretna.

The now-defunct club had been unable to fund his treatment after a serious injury he picked up in January.

Fabian is a technically-gifted player with good game awareness

Yantorno had until that point been Gretna's best player during their ill-fated Scottish Premier League debut season and has recovered sufficiently to persuade Hibs manager Mixu Paatelainen to offer him a permanent deal.

Paatelainen told his club website: "Fabian is a technically-gifted player with good game awareness.

"He is an exciting footballer and we look forward to Fabian giving his best in the coming weeks as he becomes fully match fit."

There had been speculation that Benjelloun was one of a number of players told to find new clubs by Paatelainen at the end of last season.

And Charleroi have announced that they had reached agreement with Hibs for the striker's move across the North Sea.

"With the arrivals of Chris Makiese and Benji, the RCSC clearly posts its ambitions at the start of the season," said their club website.

Benjelloun signed on the same day as fellow Moroccan forward Tarik Bendamou, a 23-year-old who had left Kawkab de Marrakech.

Charleroi had already signed their international colleague, Mohsine Yajour, and now have the forward-line that reached fourth place in the Under-20 World Cup for their country in 2005.
