Hibernian return delights Riordan

Derek Riordan and Souleyman Bamba sign for Hibs

Derek Riordan is delighted to be back at Hibernian after completing his transfer from Celtic and is determined to rediscover his best form.

The 25-year-old forward left Easter Road for Parkhead two years ago but failed to make an impact in Glasgow.

"I feels like I've lost a couple of years but I'm raring to go," he said.

Riordan, who scored 61 goals in three seasons at Hibs, signed a three-year deal on Monday after moving back to Edinburgh for an undisclosed fee.

Of his time spent playing with the reserves at Celtic, he added: "It's really frustrating - it depresses you to be honest.

"Obviously everybody makes choices in their lives and it either happens or it doesn't happen."

Riordan refused a new deal at Hibs and made it clear he was content to run down his contract in order to join Celtic, before moving west for a knock-down fee.

But Riordan, capped once for Scotland in 2005, made just 32 appearances for Celtic, scoring eight goals.

Hearts had been chasing the disgruntled striker, who had a year left on his Celtic deal, while Burnley and Leeds United were among other clubs credited with an interest in him.

Hibernian manager Mixu Paatelainen told the club website he had brought a "tremendous talent" back to Easter Road.

"His goal-scoring record speaks for itself," said the Finn.

"He will bring even more competition up front, and that is an area that I was keen to strengthen. We have certainly achieved that with this signing."

On his return, Riordan has been given the number one (01) shirt in the Hibs squad, since goalkeepers Yves Makalambay (50) and Andy McNeil (21) have been allocated other numbers.
