Paatelainen wants to trim squad

Hibs manager Mixu Paatelainen intends to reduce the size of his playing pool for the start of next season.

However, the Finn is also looking for new recruits for what will be his first full campaign in charge at Easter Road.

"I am looking to strengthen and add a bit of quality but I feel the squad is a little big just now," he said.

"We are well on our way with our plans and we have a good chance of improving," added Paatelainen, who will not be signing trialist Craig Rocastle.

The 26-year-old midfielder was recently released by Port Vale and was invited to train with Hibs.

Having played 14 games on loan from Chelsea in 2004, Rocastle was hoping to win a second spell at the Edinburgh club.

Defender David van Zanten has already been signed from St Mirren and tricky midfielder Fabian Yantorno has been undergoing rehabilitation from injury at Hibs since his release from Gretna.

However, one player who could be on his way is French playmaker Guillaume Beuzelin, who is soon to be out of contract.

"It's in his hands," said Paatelainen. "He will decide where his future lies.

"Boozy is a quality player and I'd be delighted if he wanted to stay."

Paatelainen took over at Easter Road in January, following the surprise resignation of John Collins.

"It's been hectic - more of less what I expected," reflected the former Cowdenbeath and TPS Turku boss. "And I've enjoyed it.

"Next season we hope to get off to a positive start and do a little better than we have done this time."
