Former Gretna midfielder Fabian Yantorno has been offered the chance to earn a move to Hibernian next season.
The 25-year-old was released by Gretna last month when Hibs' SPL rivals could no longer fund his treatment for a knee injury after going into administration.
But Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen said: "It won't be until next season. We are still a few months away.
"But we have agreed with Fabian that he does his rehabilitation with us with a view to joining us."
Yantorno was Gretna's top performer this season after arriving from Uruguayan First Division outfit Miramar Misiones in the summer.
But his season ended with an injury picked up against Falkirk on 19 January.
