Hibs boss wants better work-rate

Hibernian manager Mixu Paatelainen

Manager Mixu Paatelainen criticised Hibs' lack of energy and passion after losing 2-1 to Rangers at Ibrox.

"We were not sharp enough or determined enough," he fumed to BBC Sport. "People talk about Rangers being tired but they were first to every ball.

"Our passing and movement up front was not good enough and individual errors cost us at the back.

"If the work-rate and concentration is not there then the tactics and training don't come into it."

Hibs failed to test Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor until they were trailing by two goals.

Subtitute Dean Shiels eventually forced a good save from the Ibrox keeper and later scored after his opportunist chip had come back off the crossbar.

"We need more spirit and determination," added Paatelainen, who had seen Hibs win six of their seven previous SPL games.

"If you sit two or three yards off quality players like Rangers have they will simply play around you."

Striker Steven Fletcher was taken off with a back injury but Paatelainen said it was too early to tell if it would prevent him joining up with the Scotland squad for Wednesday's friendly with Croatia.
