Sowunmi completes Hibs transfer
Thomas Sowunmi
Sowunmi has joined Hibs until the end of the season
Hibernian have completed the signing of the Nigerian-born Hungarian international Thomas Sowunmi until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old has won ten caps for his adopted country and counts Ferencvaros of Hungary and FC Slovacko in the Czech Republic as former clubs.

The six-foot striker will give Hibs another option up front with Chris Killen ruled out for the season.

"I am delighted to have signed for Hibernian," he told the Hibs website.

New Zealand international Killen suffered an achillies injury against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup last month with youngster Steven Fletcher taking on the striking mantle.

It is a challenge I am looking forward to.

Sowunmi is hoping that his experience will prove to be a useful tool in what is a youthful Hibs squad.

"I am really excited about joining a team that plays exciting football," he added.

"I have a reasonable amount of experience, so hopefully that will help our young squad, but I will also have things to learn about the game here.

"It is a challenge I am looking forward to."

Hibernian manager John Collins was equally happy with Sowunmi's capture.

"Thomas is a striker who has played at international level and he brings more competition to the squad for places up front," said Collins.

"He has been training with us for a few days now and we have been sufficiently impressed to offer him a contract."

Sowunmi played against Edinburgh rivals Hearts in a Uefa Cup group match in 2004 when Ferencvaros left with a 1-0 Tynecastle win.

Meanwhile, former Easter Road striker Tam McManus could return to the club following his release from Falkirk.

McManus left the Edinburgh side for Dundee two years ago but has been back training with the squad.
