Hibs have signed Polish goalkeeper Zbigniew Malkowski after he impressed manager Tony Mowbray on trial.

The 27-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Easter Road club after playing in friendlies against Shamrock Rovers and St Patrick's Athletic.

"Ziggy provides us with some competition in goal," said Mowbray.

"Simon Brown will have seen him in Ireland and knows that we have a top quality goalkeeper joining the club. Competition is always good."

Despite not having seen Malkowski in competitive action, Mowbray is confident he has signed a quality goalkeeper.

"John Park saw him first in Holland and Mark Venus had also taken a look, and we got very good reports back about him," added Mowbray.

"For us, it is about getting the right players in and building a team that can gel and create a team spirit that can bring them through times when they need to stick together. Hopefully we can create that."
