Hibs douse Hay speculation
Livingston boss Davie Hay
Davie Hay is one of the favourites for the job
Hibernian have attempted to douse speculation that the Scottish Premier League club are poised to appoint a new permanent manager.

The Edinburgh outfit were responding to newspaper claims that Livingston's Davie Hay was about to be named as Bobby Williamson's successor.

But a Hibs spokesman: "It is very unlikely that there will be a new manager in place before the weekend.

"We are not commenting on Davie Hay or any other individual."

Clyde player-boss Alan Kernaghan, Inverness Caledonian Thistle's John Robertson and Scotland assistant Tommy Burns have also been linked with the post since Williamson joined Plymouth last week.

However, there have been a number of applications from outwith Scotland and one of those candidates could yet emerge as a surprise choice.

The Hibs spokesman stressed that it would be disrespectful to comment about anyone already in a post elsewhere.

Caretakers Jim Clark and Gerry McCabe have already indicated that they do not want the position permanently and are likely to follow Williamson to Plymouth in the summer.

"The key thing for the club is that we make sure we get the right person in," said Hibs' spokesman.

"Having said that, we will do it as quickly as we can."
