Hereford United's Rob Purdie signs new one-year deal

Hereford United midfielder Rob Purdie has signed a new one-year deal.

The former Leicester trainee, 28, joined Hereford in 2002 before leaving for Darlington five years later.

He rejoined the Bulls on loan from Oldham in October 2010 before signing a deal until the end of the season in January, after leaving Boundary Park.

Hereford were docked three points by the Football League as Purdie was unregistered for their 3-1 win at Torquay United on 1 February.

"We've kept the players who have got us in a good position towards the end of the season so I think we can really push on," Purdie told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"The chairman is keen to make changes to the ground and I think it's a club that is going forward now."

Bulls manager Jamie Pitman was delighted that Purdie had agreed to remain with the club.

"His versatility is really useful even if maybe it has been a little bit detrimental to his career," he said.

"But for a manager you know you have got some great quality in a variety of positions and he is very consistent with that.

"Rob has had a good amount of time out due to injury and he is going to be getting better next year."

Midfielder Purdie acknowledges Bulls fans might not have seen the best of him last season as he was still on the road to recovery from a mystery hip injury.

"I was happy with my fitness but I know that I will be fitter," added Purdie.

"I have been working hard over the off-season and have got two and a half weeks now to get myself in really good shape for the start of the season.

"I will be fitter and stronger and that can only benefit me."
