Guinan rejects new role at Bulls

Steve Guinan scored 15 goals for the Bulls in the 2008/9 season.

Steve Guinan has turned down an offer of becoming player-coach at Hereford United after talks with Bulls manager John Trewick.

The 33-year-old, who re-joined the Bulls in 2007 after a spell with Cheltenham Town, had been linked with taking up the position.

But it is not yet known if the striker will stay at Edgar Street next season.

"I'm not sure how that's going to pan out," director of football Graham Turner told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"Obviously there is a need for change having been relegated and in the end if I appoint John [Trewick] as team manager, then it is down to him," he added.

Meanwhile Jack Mcleod, Dean Beckwith and Stephen O'Leary have not been offered new contracts for next season.

Richard Rose and Chris Taylor are in talks about their future, but Ben Smith is yet to be offered a new deal.

"It was John's [Trewick's] wishes to make a number of changes," Turner said.

"We don't want that aftermath of relegation this season to carry on into next season.

"Sometimes you need a fresh start and it's a wonderful opportunity for him with players out of contract because he can keep the players he wants to keep and bring in a dozen or so fresh players."

Turner hinted that they are looking to build a squad of just over 20 players but will remain on the look out for promising youngsters.

"It's stood us in good stead in the past with some of the young players we've taken in who have gone onto good things, so we've always got to keep the door open for those sort of options."
