Hereford grab Tretton
Hereford United have beaten Nationwide Conference rivals Telford to the signing of former Shrewsbury defender Andy Tretton.
The 25-year-old had been offered a deal by Jake King, his former boss at Gay Meadow, to take him to Telford. However, a two-year contract and full-time football at Edgar Street tipped the balance for Tretton, who was released by the Shrews at the end of last season after making more than 100 League starts for the club. "He said he would have loved to come but they've offered him a better contract. "He will be an excellent signing for them and I put him up there with Neil Moore, although with a bit less experience," said King, who is looking to replace Moore following the former Burnley skipper's summer move to Mansfield Town. Tretton, signed by King after being rejected by Derby County five years ago, will now become a key part of Graham Turner's plans to revive Hereford's fortunes. He signed in time to start pre-season training with the Bulls on Wednesday, along with fellow new boys Michael Rose from Chester City and Crewe's John Grant.
