Hearts boss Jim Jefferies coy on Michael Stewart future

Hearts manager Jim Jefferies has refused to say whether Michael Stewart has played his last game for the club.

Stewart was relieved of the captaincy last week and replaced at half-time during the home defeat to Motherwell.

"The thing about coming here is that I could take a look at a lot of things on and off the park," said Jefferies.

"A lot of people have said that a lot of things need to change and I have always said that I will look at the end of the season."

Jefferies insists he has still to decide if Stewart will feature in Saturday's squad for the derby match against Hibs at Easter Road.

The Hearts boss also said he will be making a decision on who will be captain for next season over the next few weeks when has had a chance to fully assess the Tynecastle squad.

"Every manager feels that if it's the right person for the captaincy, then so be it," said Jefferies.

"But that does not mean that the next manager coming in feels the same. So I may think differently next year.

"I have said to Marius Zaliukas, who took over when Michael was out injured, that I may look at other players for the captaincy.

"Lee Wallace did well when both Marius and Michael were out.

"That is one of the benefits of coming in."
