Jim Jefferies says Hearts should have won derby by more

Jefferies marked his return to the Edinburgh derby with victory

Delighted Hearts manager Jim Jefferies felt his side deserved to win by a bigger ratio following the 2-1 victory over Hibernian at Tynecastle.

Goals from Andrew Driver and Gary Glen put Hearts in command before Derek Riordan's consolation for Hibs.

"It would have been a travesty if they had got something out of the game because they should have been dead and buried," Jefferies told BBC Scotland.

"We had some great chances today and the score flattered them a little bit."

Jefferies put the loss of Riordan's goal down to "tired legs" and reserved special praise for David Obua, who was utilised in a forward role.

That was a big result for us to get in the top six

"He was our man of the match today," said Jefferies. "He was outstanding. He won a lot in the air."

The result consolidated sixth-place in the Scottish Premier League for Hearts and Jefferies was equally as pleased with the performance.

"That's the best I've ever seen the dressing-room since I've come in here, it's rocking in there," added Jefferies.

"That was a big result for us to get in the top six. The games are running out, so if we get another couple of wins, we've got a chance.

"We've got a massive game here next week against Rangers, but at least we're going into it buoyed; buoyed with the performance, not just the result and the way that the players competed and did well."
