No signings at Hearts for manager Csaba Laszlo

Laszlo does not expect Hearts to bring in players in the January transfer window

Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo has been told he will not be able to sign any new players even if Lee Wallace is a late transfer out of Tynecastle.

Middlesbrough manager Gordon Strachan saw Wednesday's defeat by Aberdeen, while Celtic sources have played down reports about their interest.

But Laszlo says there have been no bids for the 22-year-old Scotland cap.

"I don't think in two days something will happen," said Laszlo. "The clubs had one month and nobody's come."

Speculation about interest from Celtic had increased after summer signing Danny Fox was allowed to hold signing talks with Burnley.

We have two days to go and, in these two days, if somebody takes Lee Wallace, it's very bad for us

But Laszlo insists there have been no bids that he is aware of for Wallace, despite reported interest in the player.

"I talked with my sport director and he told me he didn't have any information about this," he said.

"I read my friend Gordon was here from Middlesbrough to watch him, but I think he watched the game.

"We have two days to go and, in these two days, if somebody takes Lee Wallace, it's very bad for us. We don't have a replacement."

Hearts have beaten off competition from Aberdeen and Hibernian to sign Darren Barr on a pre-contract agreement that will see the Falkirk defender move to Edinburgh in the summer.

The Tynecastle club have also been linked with a similar deal for Aberdeen striker Lee Miller, but attempts to sign Plymouth striker Steven MacLean and Charlton Athletic's Izale McLeod have come to nothing.

Laszlo insisted that, if Wallace was allowed to leave, he must be able to draft somebody else in and admitted he had a name in mind.

However, he said he had not been told why the club has not given him funds to bring in new players.

"If it's in my head, it's not enough," he added. "The board decide."
