Hearts' Aguiar makes Cyprus move

Midfielder Bruno Aguiar
Aguiar scored some memorable goals for Hearts

Midfielder Bruno Aguiar has joined Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia from Hearts on a three-year deal.

The Portuguese was out of contract with the Tynecastle outfit, although his agent had said he was keen to continue playing in Scotland.

That prompted speculation that he would join either Rangers or Celtic - who denied any interest in the player.

Aguiar will link up with Christos Karapidis who also made the switch from Tynecastle at the end of the season.

Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo had urged the influential midfielder to remain for at least another season, after which he could win a move to a bigger club.

The 28-year-old arrived in Edinburgh in January 2006 from Benfica.

During that time he played over 70 times for the club, scoring 11 goals, although he was troubled by a series of injuries.
