Frail was disappointed to see his side lose to Kilmarnock
Hearts caretaker manager Stevie Frail was deflated after the Tynecastle club marked their final home match of the season with defeat to Kilmarnock.
Second-half goals by Grant Murray and Paul Di Giacomo gave the visitors victory in Edinburgh.
Frail said: "It's probably as bad as I've felt.
"We lose our opening game of the season against Hibs at home and we've now lost our final league game at home against Kilmarnock."
Hearts may now lose out to Falkirk in the race for seventh spot in the SPL and Frail believes the club will need to strengthen in the summer to make it into the top half of the table.
"We need big characters," added Frail
"Hopefully we'll get them next season because for this football club to progress we need things like that."
