Jankauskas has a good pedigree

Hearts have signed Lithuanian striker Edgaras Jankauskas on a year-long loan deal from FBK Kaunas.

The 30-year-old has only recently signed for the Lithuanians from Porto, but Hearts have links with FBK through major shareholder Vladimir Romanov.

"I believe Hearts can be a successful team as we're a young team," he said.

"It will be difficult to compete with Celtic and Rangers but I'm sure Hearts will give their best and go out for victory every game."

Manager George Burley told Hearts' website: "Edgaras is a player we've been trying to bring in for a while.

"He has played at the very highest level right across Europe and so I am sure that he will do very well for us."

Burley saw the former Real Sociedad and Porto frontman in action in two recent friendlies when he played as a trialist.

Jankauskas scored the Tynecastle side's winning goal in the 1-0 win over Hull City on Saturday.

"He is a big lad but has a terrific touch," he added.

"He is a little ring-rusty at the moment as he has only been back in training for 10 days after having six weeks off, but I am sure Hearts supporters will see the best of him soon."

Burley seems to have benefited from the link-up with FBK Kaunas that led to Saul Mikoliunas and Deividas Cesnauskis turning out for Hearts last season.

The Hearts boss is also trying to tie up the signing of the Czech pair of Michal Pospisil and Roman Bednar, both of whom are strikers.

He told Hearts' website: "We're working to try and do that on a permanent basis - we're trying to get them on board. Then we'll see if they are going to be available for next Saturday."
