Happy Burley avoids talk of title
Hearts manager George Burley refused to get carried away with title thoughts after the SPL leaders' 1-0 defeat of champions Rangers at Tynecastle.

"At times, we know there are areas where we could be better," he said.

"There is still a long way to go. But, when you have got spirit and character, anything is possible.

"The game was hampered with players being injured and changed around. But, after the goal, we had really good spell and could have had a few more."

Czech striker Roman Bednar scored Hearts' winner early in the first half before being forced out of the action.

"Roman getting injured was a big blow for us because he was looking sharp and giving Rangers problems," he said.

"Then Takis Fyssas was injured too and that disrupted the momentum a bit.

"But we showed character - we showed that not only can we score goals, we can defend too.

"Rangers were always going to put us under pressure, but we defended well."

It was Hearts' first home win over Rangers since August 1998 after 10 defeats and two draws.

Hearts captain Steven Pressley was delighted to equal a club record of eight straight league wins.

"It was not a classic game of football, there was a lot of blood and thunder, but one goal was enough and we are delighted to win," he said.

"Rangers definitely had a good claim for a penalty.

"But you can see how much the result and equalling the record of those great men in 1914-15 means to the club."
