Hartlepool United on the lookout for a new striker

Hartlepool United manager Mick Wadsworth has told BBC Tees that he and chairman Ken Hodcroft are keeping an eye out for a new striker.

Pools have one of the worst goal scoring records in League One with just 26 in 23 matches this season.

He said: "We talk all the time and we both recognise that the right striker could be helpful."

Strikers Adam Boyd, James Brown and Denis Behan have a combined total of just six goals all season.

Midfielder Antony Sweeney is the club's top scorer with five league goals this season.

Although Wadsworth is looking to strengthen his striking options, he has conceded that lack of funds might prevent him from bringing in his preferred choice.

He said: "On top of it being the right person, it has to be the right wages and so forth.

"We're not awash with money and we run a very tight ship here."
