Hartlepool boss Chris Turner preaches fans patience

Turner's second spell at Pools has yielded 16 wins from 60 games

Hartlepool United director of sport Chris Turner has called on supporters to be realistic about the club's progress this season.

Pools have been criticised by fans for being 14th in League One and Turner told BBC Tees: "People put pressure on where it's not really needed.

"People have to realise to get into the top six is very difficult for the majority of clubs in this division."

Pools have not won in four games, including a 5-0 home loss to MK Dons.

They are five points off the relegation places in 14th place.

Turner's first spell as Pools boss saw him take over with the club bottom of League Two in 1999 before reaching two consecutive play-offs and leaving for Wednesday.

However Turner has found his second period at Victoria Park tougher and revealed the pressure and criticism is felt by himself and the players.

"I'd be lying if I said it didn't get to you, of course it gets to you, because you put pressure on yourself," he said.

"I just feel the situation we're in at the moment as a football club, recent results aren't going well I'll admit that, but I think we're as good as anyone in this division.

"There's one club who has spent millions to get into the next division and they'll probably still be in this league next season because it's a stiff test."
