Porter gunning for play-off spot

Interview: Hartlepool United striker Joel Porter

Hartlepool United striker Joel Porter believes a play-off spot is a realistic target for the club, if they can maintain their impressive home form.

Pools lost just seven times in 23 games at Victoria Park last season compared to 15 away defeats, and Porter hopes to banish their away-day blues this term.

"It's going to be tough as there's a lot of good teams," he told BBC Tees.

"If we're consistent our home form should hold up, we'll nick a few away wins and we should be up there."

The Australian was subject of speculation during the summer, surrounding a return to his native country following an injury-plagued 2007-08 campaign.

I'm hoping to get in as many games as I can and hopefully getting a few more goals.

However, with manager Danny Wilson keen to retain his services, and seven appearances under his belt already this season, Porter is keen to play his part in their promotion bid.

"I'm feeling good, obviously fit and raring to go," he said.

"I'm hoping to get in as many games as I can and hopefully getting a few more goals."
