Watson targets return
Hartlepool United striker Gordon Watson is closing in on a first-team return and insists he is fully behind manager Mike Newell.

Watson, top-scorer for Pool last season with 18 goals after being signed by former boss Chris Turner, has been out of action since breaking a leg in September.

He is now back in full training and the striker says he is fully committed to helping new manager Mike Newell guide the Third Division leaders to promotion.

"I have spoken to Mike loads of times and not had an argument with him and have not had one cross word with him," said Watson.

"There have been rumours going around, but as I have said in the past they are for the ignorant people who have nothing better to talk about.

"I wrote 'Champions 2002-2003' on the changing room door at the training ground at the start of the season to remind everyone what the targets are. Nothing has changed,┐ Watson told his club┐s website.
