Hamilton Accies sign Jon Routledge and Joel Thomas

Hamilton have completed the loan signing of Wigan midfielder Jonathan Routledge as well as bringing striker Joel Thomas back to New Douglas Park.

Routledge, 20, has made just one appearance for Wigan since joining from hometown club Liverpool in 2007.

And he spent last season on loan to Ostersunds in Sweden's top flight.

Frenchman Thomas, 23, has already had two spells with Accies, the second on loan, and joins again after his release by Colchester United.

Thomas began his career with Bordeaux and moved to Kaiserslautern before joining Hamilton in 2008.

I'm just dying to get started and be involved

Hamilton midfielder Gary McDonald

He was sold to Colchester after a season with the Scottish Premier League club but failed to become a regular with the League One outfit.

Routledge, who has signed on until January, moves in the opposite direction to fellow midfielder James McArthur, who was sold by Accies to Wigan this summer - a year after team-mate James McCarthy took the same path.

Meanwhile, recent signing Gary McDonald says he will not be fazed by the reception - either good or bad - that he gets from Aberdeen fans when he returns to Pittodrie on the opening day of the season this weekend.

"I'm not fussed at all when I go up there," he said. "The main thing is Hamilton Accies get the three points on Saturday, that's all I care about.

"I think I can do that here, I can enjoy it," added McDonald. "And, when you're enjoying your football, everything is great.

"I've spoken to the manager and everything is positive and I'm just dying to get started and be involved."
