Knight arrives in Scotland with a bad boy reputation

Hamilton Accies have signed controversial striker Leon Knight.

The 26-year-old one-time Chelsea trainee has accumulated something of a bad boy reputation for breaches of conduct at previous clubs.

Knight looks set to make his Accies debut on Saturday against Aberdeen, managed by Mark McGhee, who he fell out with during his time at Brighton.

Accies manager Billy Reid said: "Leon's a guy with a big pedigree. He's scored goals for every club he's been at."

A series of arguments with McGhee saw Knight leave Brighton and join Swansea three-and-a-half year's ago.

Since then Knight has had spells at Milton Keynes Dons and Wycombe Wanderers before joining Rushden and Diamonds in August 2008.

After three months, Rushden & Diamonds sacked the player for 'continuous breaches of conduct'. However, despite the termination of his deal, Knight was prevented from joining another English club, until the terms of his contract expired.

Knight arrives at Hamilton after a six-month spell at Greek club Thrasivoulos Filis.

"He has a reputation of a bit of a bad lad," added Reid. "But he's now 26 and we've given him an opportunity to play at the top level in Scotland.

"We're hoping that Leon can settle down. I've got every faith in his ability; that's never been in question.

"But it's up to him now to show and prove to everybody that he is a decent striker and can score goals at a high level."

Earlier this week Knight scored two goals for Accies in a bounce game against Dundee United.

Reid lost forward players Kenny Deuchar, Derek Asamoah, Stephen Ettien, Joel Thomas and Marc Corcoran over the summer but has recruited Portuguese twins Marco and Flavio Paixao, both attackers.

Last season's top scorer Richard Offiong remains at the club, having turned down two offers to move on.
