Grimsby Town take striker James Walker on trial

Grimsby Town have given a trial to striker James Walker as they try to bolster their squad for the Blue Square Bet Premier play-offs.

The former Charlton Athletic trainee, 23, is a free agent after being released last month by Leyton Orient.

After training this week with Grimsby, he played a half in Wednesday's reserve game against Gateshead before limping off with a hamstring injury.

Walker left The Valley in July 2008, since when he has been at a few clubs.

He spent time on loan at Hartlepool, Bristol Rovers, Orient, Notts County, Yeovil and Southend while he was with Charlton.

He then signed permanently for Southend in August 2008 and went on loan again to Hereford before moving to Gillingham as a January transfer deadline signing a year ago.

He then returned to Orient this summer but has made just one start.

The Mariners currently stand seventh in the table, seven points off the play-off pack.
