Mariners bring Deehan on board to head recruitment

John Deehan
Deehan will help Grimsby identify transfer targets

Grimsby Town have made former Norwich City manager John Deehan the club's new head of recruitment.

Deehan, who was chief scout at Carrow Road during Bryan Gunn's short reign as City boss, has already started work with the Mariners.

Grimsby manager Neil Woods told the club's official website: "He will come in and help in any way that he can do.

"John is very experienced and will help us build a database of short term and potential long term player targets.

"He has a lot of contacts already and that will be the main emphasis of what he will be doing.

"He will initially be coming to our games to see us play and find out the level that we are at."

The former Aston Villa and Norwich striker has managed the Canaries and Wigan, and been part of management teams at Sheffield United, Huddersfield, Northampton, Lincoln and Kettering, as well as scouting for Bolton.

In September 2008 Deehan expressed interest in the vacant manager's position at Blundell Park, saying: "I think Grimsby Town is a good club and a good opportunity for any manager. Whenever I've been to Blundell Park, I've been impressed with the set-up and the positive approach to football."

However Grimsby appointed Mike Newell.
