David Irons wants two captains to share responsibility
|
Gretna head coach David Irons pronounced pride in his players after the win over Dundee United and insisted there was no fall-out with Chris Innes.
Innes remains club skipper, but the team captaincy has been passed to summer signing Paul Murray.
"It is totally innocent," said Irons after the 3-2 win. "Chris Innes has been a great leader for us.
"But he needs help and Paul Murray is another experienced player and they can share the responsibility."
The victory was Gretna's first-ever in the Scottish Premier League.

We need 11 leaders and hopefully we can build on this result

"I am delighted and very proud of every single one of my players," Irons told BBC Sport.
"Their commitment and application was just top-notch and, although I am obviously biased, I feel we deserved the victory."
Irons thought both United goals should have been chopped off for fouls.
But he pointed out: "The boys showed tremendous character and David Cowan, not known for his scoring prowess, came up from right back to score two good goals.
"Allan Jenkins will have been disappointed not to start, but he came off the bench and won it for us."
Irons stressed that his side had showed the battling qualities necessary in a league where they faced a number of sides with better quality players.
"We need 11 leaders and hopefully we can build on this result," he added.
