Grays Athletic win Ryman League appeal

Grays Athletic

Grays Athletic have been successful in their appeal to play in the Ryman Premier League next season.

The club were relegated from the Blue Square Premier last season, but opted to drop down another level.

They faced a future in the Essex Senior League, after being refused entry to the Ryman Premier as the FA said they had failed to submit paperwork on time.

Owner Andy Swallow said: "Justice I feel has been done in the nicest sense and I'm over the moon for the fans."

It's not known how the decision will affect the make-up of the 2010/11 Ryman League.

"Probably a couple of telephone calls could have sorted this out between the pair of us," Swallow told BBC Radio Essex.

"It would have been a big struggle for two or three years in the Essex Senior."

Swallow now plans to talk to manager Julian Dicks and his assistant Kenny Brown about their future at the club.

"I'll have a meeting with Julian and Kenny, hopefully to negotiate them staying on board and between us we will put a team together," he added.

Grays Athletic will ground-share with East Thurrock United next season, as the owners of their previous New Rec home decided not to extend the club's lease this summer.
