Daish plays down Cambridge return

Daish is trying to put together an entirely new squad this season

Ebbsfleet boss Liam Daish has distanced himself from speculation linking him with the vacant managerial position at his former club Cambridge United.

Daish, who made 138 appearance for Cambridge between 1988 and 1994, is seen as a possible replacement for Gary Brabin who was sacked on Monday.

Daish told BBC Radio Kent: "[He had] not been approached and is currently considering a new contract with Fleet."

The 40-year old is trying to build a new team ahead of the new season.

He has been left with just three full-time professionals after the departure of most of his squad, when his budget was slashed over the summer.

Ebbsfleet are owned by members of subscription website MyFootballClub and they have a say on all major decisions that are made.

In a recent poll 93% of those who voted wanted the former Republic of Ireland defender to stay on at Stonebridge Road.

Daish's greatest achievement with the Fleet was their FA Trophy triumph in 2008.
