Gillingham move dream come true - Danny Kedwell

New signing Danny Kedwell says his transfer to Gillingham is the fulfilment of a boyhood dream.

The former AFC Wimbledon striker was one of six signings announced by the Gills on Friday.

"It's what I wanted since I was a kid. My dreams have come true." the 27-year-old told BBC Radio Kent.

Kedwell scored 24 goals for AFC Wimbledon last season and fired the winning penalty in the Blue Square Bet play-off final against Luton.

He was part of Gillingham's youth set-up as a youngster but was released by current boss Andy Hessenthaler.

"I had him at the club when he was a young boy. He came in one day and didn't turn up the next day, that was enough for me, I let him go." said Hessenthaler.

"He's grown up, he's a family man, he's scored goals wherever he's been, is a local lad who wants to play for his local club and that's come to fruition."

Kedwell, whose entire career has been in non-league, said he will have the same target for his first season in the Football League.

"I always want to hit 20-plus goals. That's my target" he told BBC Radio Kent.

"I score goals. I work hard. I'm a winner. But I'm a team player as well. I can drop off and do other things. I've got a bit of everything."

Gillingham's pre-season kicks off with a friendly at away to Ashford United on Wednesday.
