Dover Athletic have unveiled former Arsenal player Martin Hayes as their second new manager in a month.

Hayes, 44, had a spell with the Whites as a player in 1995, but more recently had been in charge at Bishops Stortford for 10 years.

Dover chairman Jim Parmenter said: "Martin was on my shortlist of two for the job in the first place."

Outgoing manager Ian Hendon quit the club on Tuesday after just 18 days to become assistant boss at Gillingham.

Parmenter added: "It was an easy decision for us to make in the end as we had spoken to Martin before and were very impressed by him."

Hayes told the club website: "I'm looking forward to starting work and getting the club back into the Conference."

Hayes made 15 first-team Conference appearances for the Whites in 1995, after spending seven years at Highbury, winning a League Cup and a title winners' medal.

As manager of Bishops Stortford he guided them to the Blue Square South play-offs in 2007 and an FA Trophy run to the semi-finals in 2005.

He has signed a one-year deal.
