Gillingham have ended a run of always getting knocked out of the FA cup by clubs starting with the letter B.
The Gills FA cup run ended at Burscough in 2005, at Bristol City in 2006 and at Barnet in 2007.
But they have avoided a similar fate in the first round this year by winning 1-0 at Bury.
Andy Barcham headed Gillingham's 71st minute winner from Curtis Weston's cross.
Manager Mark Stimson told BBC Radio Kent: "Great victory, Bury are a good side. I am led to believe that each team beginning with B has always knocked Gillingham out of the cup so it was good to get that out of the way."
They will be grateful to have avoided Brentford, Barnet, Brighton, Bournemouth, Blyth Spartans, Barrow or Bradford in the second round draw.
