Gillingham youngster Josh Sargeant left a good impression on assistant manager Scott Barrett after he came on as a substitute against Birmingham.
The 16-year-old played a late cameo in Saturday's 2-0 defeat and showed he has the potential to follow in former Gills prodigy Luke Freeman's footsteps.
Barrett told BBC Radio Kent: "He looked quite sharp and didn't look overawed which is a big test.
"He reacted positively and I am sure he enjoyed it."
Freeman was just 15-years-old when he become the youngest ever player to appear in the FA Cup, and later he signed for Arsenal.
Barrett added: "Luke did it for us in the past. If they are good enough, then give them a go.
"Joshua has performed well in training so there was no reason not to pick him."
