Defender Roget given Gills chance

Stimson says Leo Roget has impressed him in training

Experienced defender Leo Roget is to be given a chance in Gillingham's pre-season campaign after impressing manager Mark Stimson in training.

The 30-year-old is not with the squad currently training in the Spanish resort of La Manga but he is with fitness coach Danny Ellis.

The centre back has been out of the game since leaving Oxford in 2006.

Meanwhile, Gillingham have decided not to pursue an interest in striker Drewe Broughton and defender Moses Swaibu.

Broughton was seen as surplus to requirements after the signing of Mark McCammon, and Stimson is said to have enough options in defence.

Roget is set to feature in the Gills first friendly against Stevenage Borough on Tuesday 15 July.
