Gateshead extend loan of Newcastle United's Tavernier

Gateshead have extended the loan of Newcastle United defender James Tavernier until 9 April.

The 19-year-old, who has made two appearances for the Magpies first team, has played seven games since arriving at the International Stadium.

"Tavernier has pace to burn," boss Ian Bogie told the club website.

The Tynesiders have released defenders Alan White and David Brown after completing loan deals for Tavernier and Sunderland full-back Michael Liddle.

"Because they [Liddle and Tavernier] have committed to a longer period at the club, White and Brown have been allowed to leave the club," Bogie added.

"We thank them both for their efforts and wish them well for the future.

"Both need to be playing regularly at their age and they haven't been able to do that at Gateshead."

Meanwhile, Faroe Islands midfielder Joan Simun Edmundsson has returned to Newcastle United following his loan spell with Gateshead.
