Gateshead have signed striker Daryl Clare on a three-month loan deal from Mansfield Town.

The 33-year-old has joined Mansfield's Blue Square Premier rivals in an attempt to boost his match fitness.

Stags manager David Holdsworth told BBC Radio Nottingham: "The emergence of our strike force that's contributed so well so far has hindered Daryl's chances.

"I am a big admirer of Daryl as a man and a player and I understand his reasons for taking this opportunity."

Clare has started just three times for Mansfield this season, appearing nine times from the substitutes bench.

The striker is not cup-tied, but will not be allowed to play against the Stags should the sides been drawn against each other in any cup competition.

"He will certainly be welcome back with us and I hope that's for a promotion push," added Holdsworth.

Meanwhile, Mansfield have taken the former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Richard Langley on trial. The 29-year-old Jamaica international has most recently been training with Blackpool.
