Bobby Zamora signs extended Fulham deal

Zamora proved any doubters wrong last season

Fulham striker Bobby Zamora has signed a new four-year deal that is set to keep him at the club until 2014.

The 29-year-old made his England debut against Hungary in August, but is currently out with a thigh injury.

A £4.8m signing from West Ham in July 2008, Zamora has made 94 appearances, scoring 26 times.

However, he came to the fore last season as he scored 19 goals to help Fulham reach the Europa League final and finish 12th in the Premier League.

Zamora, who only had a year remaining on his existing deal, had been heavily linked with a move away during the summer, with Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson a known admirer having brought the player to Fulham during his time in London.

And he started the current campaign in fine form, scoring in the 2-2 Premier League draw at Blackpool before succumbing to injury.

That injury robbed him of a place in the England squad for Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland and he is doubtful for Saturday's Premier League clash with Wolves.

However, he could get a further chance to impress at international level with Jermain Defoe - so impressive in scoring a hat-trick against Bulgaria - facing three months out with ankle ligament damage.

Although he was short of fitness as Fulham lost their first European final 2-1 to Atletico Madrid, Zamora was instrumental in their route to Hamburg, notably scoring against Juventus as they fought back from 4-1 down on aggregate to win 5-4.
