Zuberbuhler completes Fulham move

Zuberbuhler had an unhappy seven-month spell at West Brom

Switzerland international goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbuhler has agreed to join Fulham on a one-year deal.

The 37-year-old becomes Fulham manager Roy Hodgson's ninth signing of the summer and arrives from Swiss side Neuchatel Xamax.

The former West Brom goalkeeper played for Switzerland in their Euro 2008 victory over Portugal.

"I'm very happy to sign for Fulham, I'm coming here to be successful," Zuberbuhler told the club's website.

"I've already spent three weeks with the team and we have a very good squad for the new season.

"I know the club had a very hard season last year, but I'm confident that this season it will be much, much better."

He made his senior debut for Zurich club Grasshopper in 1992, making 187 appearances in a seven-year spell before moving to FC Basle.

Zuberbuhler then joined Albion in July 2006 but made only 15 league starts before being released in February 2007.

He moved back to Switzerland with Neuchatel where the much-travelled Hodgson had been manager between 1990 and 1992.

Zuberbuhler, who has 51 caps for his country, is likely to provide cover for Australian international Mark Schwarzer, who signed on a free transfer from Middlesbrough in June.

"I know the situation here with the goalkeepers," said Zuberbuhler.

"I've known Mark for a long time and played against him in the past. I know he's the number one, but I'm here to give my best so that, in the end, the team is successful. That's my mentality.

"If I sign a contract with a club I want to be successful. I want to do everything possible to help Fulham have a good season - that's my number one aim."

Zuberbuhler joins Fredrik Stoor, Schwarzer, Andranik Teymourian, Zoltan Gera, David Stockdale, Toni Kallio and Bobby Zamora and John Pantsil in joining the Craven Cottage squad this summer.
