McBride's goals helped Fulham stay in the Premier League
Fulham's captain Brian McBride is to leave the club after four-and-a-half years to return to America.
The club wanted him to stay for at least another year but after making more than 150 appearances and scoring 40 goals, he has decided to leave.
"I've always stated my intention to go home at some stage and this seems like the right moment to move on," the 35-year-old told the club website.
"I'm proud that my last game saw the club stay in the Premier League."
McBride won Fulham's player of the year award twice during his time at Craven Cottage, and returned from a serious injury to score some of the goals which helped them avoid relegation on the last day of the season.
