Surgeon hopeful after Bullard op

Bullard's injury was one of the worst Steadman has seen
Jimmy Bullard's latest knee operation has been declared a success by the renowned surgeon who performed it.

Dr Richard Steadman operated on the Fulham midfielder for the second time this week to try and repair the knee ligaments he injured in September.

"There's no guarantee he'll come back - I can never guarantee something like that," Steadman told BBC Sport.

"But all the signs are positive. We had a video that showed the injury and it was as bad as it gets."

He is here right now and is progressing well - he's a great guy

He added: "There are so many factors involved in healing that we just don't have control over, but yes, I was very pleased."

Bullard suffered knee ligament damage in a tackle with Newcastle's Scott Parker during a Premiership match in September.

And Steadman, 69, said the injury was one of the worst he had ever seen.

"If you saw the injury he had, you would think there would be no chance (of him playing again)," he said.

"His situation is certainly much better than when he arrived. He is actually here right now and is progressing well. He's a great guy."

Bullard underwent a first operation at Steadman's famous clinic in Vail, Colorado, shortly after suffering his knee injury.

The 27-year-old signed for Fulham for 2.5m from Wigan during the summer and had put in several outstanding displays before being injured.
