Fulham role for McKinlay
Fulham boss Chris Coleman
Coleman wants McKinlay to work with the young players
Fulham have signed midfielder Billy McKinlay - and they hope he can play a vital role in developing youth players.

The 35-year-old, who was released by Leicester at the end of last season, is set to feature in the reserves before taking up a coaching role.

"We let a lot of our young lads go out on loan last season and, as a result, our reserve team suffered," manager Chris Coleman told the club's website.

"We're looking at him to help bring the young lads through."

Coleman added: "Billy is under no illusions - he knows that his appearances for the first team will be few and far between.

"He has played at the top level and has a great way about him. Of course, if we need to call upon him, we know he won't let us down.

"After this season he will be working on the coaching side so it's a good signing for us."

Coleman says he is aiming to sign two more midfielders following the sale of Sean Davis and the possible loss of Junichi Inamoto and Martin Djetou, who were on loan at the club last season.

"It's very important we bring in a couple of signings. We need a midfield player, probably two," he said.

"I've got money to spend and I'm hopeful that we can make one signing soon."

Coleman is hopeful of re-signing Inamoto, although there is less chance of a return for Djetou.
