Forfar Athletic defender Stuart Malcolm has been forced to retire from football through injury.

The club website stated: "Stuart Malcolm has been released from his contract with Forfar Athletic Football Club due to a persistent groin injury."

Malcolm had signed for the Third Division club this summer after having left Irish club Finn Harps.

The 30-year-old had made nine appearances for Dick Campbell's side this season.

He had previously played for St Johnstone, Plymouth Argyle, Ross County, Drogheda United, Dublin City, Alloa Athletic, Montrose and Shelbourne.

Meantime, Forfar midfielder Darren Brady is awaiting results of a scan to determine the full extent of his long-term injury.
