Kidderminster's Keith Briggs to make Fleetwood switch

Fleetwood Town have agreed to sign Kidderminster Harriers captain Keith Briggs on a two-year contract.

The initial £5,000 deal for the midfielder will officially go through when the transfer window re-opens.

"With the quality of players around the club there is no reason why Fleetwood cannot go one stage further than last season and get promoted," said Briggs.

"It's going to be tough but this is a club with high ambitions and I am keen to be part of future plans."

Briggs, who has made 232 career appearances with 166 of them for Stockport, scored six times for Kidderminster last season.

The midfielder believes off-field developments prove Fleetwood are definitely going in the right direction.

He is a leader and a winner and I can't wait to work with him

"The new stand is magnificent," said the 29-year-old.

"Kidderminster played here early in the season so I have not had a chance to see how it has developed. I'm very impressed and the new signings will add to an already strong squad."

Briggs becomes Fleetwood's third signing of the summer following the recent acquisitions of Crawley's Richard Brodie and Peter Till from York.

Town were knocked out of the Blue Square Bet Premier play-offs by AFC Wimbledon, who themselves are now a Football League club.

And manager Micky Mellon believes Briggs is the type of player who will help Fleetwood achieve similar ambitions.

"I'm delighted to have signed Keith," said Mellon. "He is a player that I've admired for some time and he will add something different to what we already have in midfield.

"He is a leader and a winner and I can't wait to work with him.

'We've watched him a few times this season on our travels and he is undoubtedly one of the better midfield players in the division. He will undoubtedly strengthen the squad.

"We have further plans to add to what we have in the near future and, after that, we will be somewhere close to where we want to be ahead of pre-season training."
