Fleetwood's new loan signing from Crawley, Richard Brodie, has said he cannot wait for the new Blue Square Bet Premier season to get under way.

The 23-year-old striker, who has moved on a season-long loan, scored 12 goals as Crawley won promotion to the Football League in April.

"Having won the league I am determined to come here and try to help the lads do the same next season," he said.

"I know that a lot of fans love to hate me but I take that as a compliment."

The England 'C' international started his career with York City, where he scored 58 goals in 147 appearances.

The Gateshead-born forward later joined Barrow on a short-term loan, before completing a permanent transfer to Crawley in September 2010.

And after becoming Fleetwood's first signing of pre-season, Brodie feels he has got a lot to offer this season's defeated play-off semi-finalists.

"A goalscorer is worth his weight in gold and my record proves itself," he said. "I'm not the most technically gifted player but I'll run all day.

"I've been fortunate to appear at Wembley with York in a play-off final and winning the title [with Crawley] at a canter was fantastic.

"I missed Crawley's pre-season last year so to be here from the start will make a difference.

"I played with [Fleetwood captain] Steve McNulty when I was at Barrow and have had the odd tussle with [midfielder] Jamie McGuire."
