Farnborough Town have appointed Tommy Taylor as assistant to manager Ian McDonald.

Taylor, who has been out of work since leaving Darlington in October, will work as McDonald's number two at relegation-threatened Boro until the end of the season.

Former Cambridge and Leyton Orient boss Taylor told BBC Sport: "The manager didn't have anyone helping him out so I was asked to give him a hand.

"We need to win a few games to get us out of trouble and hopefully I can help us do that.

"I met the players on Tuesday night and that all went okay.

"They have a few players who are ex-pros but the only players I know are Ken Charlery, who I tried to sign for Orient, and Christian Lee, who I had on loan there."

Taylor enjoyed his most productive period as manager when in charge at Brisbane Road between 1996 and 2001.

He steered Orient to two Division Three play-off finals - in 1999 and 2001 - but could not achieve promotion.

After leaving the O's in autumn 2001, Taylor quickly took over at Darlington, but failed to see eye-to-eye with Quakers chairman George Reynolds.

"I had a good time but it was just one of those things. There was only one person there I didn't get on with," he added.

"Now it's just nice to put my tracksuit on and get down the training ground again."
