Ireland has to give up football
Falkirk defender Craig Ireland
Craig Ireland has been out injured for more than a year
Falkirk defender Craig Ireland has been forced to retire through injury.

The 31-year-old, who hopes to move into coaching, said: "I had an operation just last Wednesday and that is the sixth on the same cartilage.

"The doctros said full-time football was out of the question, so I decided to finish."

Ireland joined Falkirk from Peterborough in 2005, having previously played for Aberdeen, Dunfermline, Dundee, Notts County and Barnsley.

He has not played for Falkirk since February 2006.
