Departing Exeter boss Eamonn Dolan will leave the club after Tuesday's Conference game against Barnet.
Dolan, who is leaving to take charge of Reading's academy, had originally been scheduled to depart after Saturday's away trip to Halifax.
But Dolan admitted: "I was thrilled to be asked to take charge of one last game at St James Park. It will be an emotional night."
The club insist they will not be rushed into appointing a successor.
Player-coach Scott Hiley and director of football Steve Perryman could take temporary charge when Dolan goes.
But Bristol City youth development coach Shaun Taylor has already held talks about possibly taking over as boss.
