Sharpe joins Exeter
Former Manchester United and Leeds winger Lee Sharpe has joined Third Division Exeter City.

The 31-year-old former England international has joined the Grecians on a non-contract basis and could make his debut at home to Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night.

Sharpe, who started his career in Devon with Torquay United, was without a club after leaving Bradford City at the end of last season.

We finally cracked a deal on a match-by-match basis even though Lee was also rather keen on going abroad
Mike Lewis
Exeter joint vice-chairman
Exeter hope the signing will boost their attendances - starting with Tuesday's home clash against Scunthorpe.

"It would be nice to see 5,000 fans there against Scunthorpe," joint vice-chairman Mike Lewis told the Exeter Express & Echo newspaper.

"By giving us their support, that will allow us to keep on signing better quality players.

"We worked really hard all day on Friday to bring Lee to the club, talking to his agent and talking to Lee four or five times.

"We finally cracked a deal on a match-by-match basis even though he was also rather keen on going abroad."
