Steven Pienaar wants new Everton contract

Everton have been urged to offer midfielder Steven Pienaar a new contract or risk losing him.

The South African international's agent has said the club must put an extended deal on the table before this summer's World Cup in the player's homeland.

The 28-year-old has a year to run on his current contract with the Toffees.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Everton's Merseyside rivals Liverpool are all thought to be interested in Pienaar, as well as several clubs in Europe.

But his agent Ivan Modia said his client, who joined Everton from Borussia Dortmund for £2m in 2007, was happy at Goodison Park.

"At the moment we are looking at every situation and it will be sorted one way or another before the World Cup," Modia said.

"We have had some interest expressed from clubs in Europe but we haven't talked to them because everything must go through Everton as he is under contract."

Asked if it was possible Pienaar would leave in the summer, Modia added: "It is possible but it is also possible he will stay at the club.

"I am not saying he is leaving the club because that is not true. We are in talks but I think it would be disrespectful to Everton to elaborate because we have a good relationship with the club."

Everton manager David Moyes has said of Pienaar: "He loves the club and loves the fans and he really appreciates the opportunity that Everton gave him when he was having a really difficult time in his career."
